Why Shelter-Kit?

We know you have many options to choose from when it comes to kit homes.
Here is what makes us different.

There are (quite) a few things that make us stand out from the competition:

High-Quality Materials:

Shelter-Kit homes are made with the highest-quality materials available to ensure durability and longevity. We use high-grade, kiln dried, graded lumber, and other high-quality materials.

Our kits are pre-cut and specifically designed for owner assembly:

Shelter-Kits* are designed for assembly by people with little to no previous construction experience, and are ready for assembly when they arrive at your building site.

The required construction techniques are straightforward:

All joints are designed for an easy fit. There is no technique that is beyond the level of an armature builder. All of these factors will save you time and money in building your home, barn or garage.

The terms in the instructions are easily understandable by amateurs:

Our customers work from our detailed drawings and step-by-step instructions, instead of difficult to read blueprints.

All of our kits are a complete, weather tight shell:

Our building kits include all the materials to build a complete, weather tight shell, except we do not include doors or windows. It is better for you to purchase your doors and windows locally and have them delivered when you are ready to install them. The kit includes the pre-cut frame, subfloor, wall and roof sheathing, plus siding, roofing and hardware. We do not precut the siding.

We use kiln dried, graded lumber, including 2" x 6" studs and 2" X 12" rafters. We make assembly easier by pre-cutting the lumber and sheathing, and including a custom-written Construction Manual. If you are on a tight timeline, we can work with you to meet your schedule.  Our "Popular Plan Kits," with little to no customization, can be created and produced in a short time.

All materials are selected for quality and ease of assembly and fit:

The weight of each piece is typically limited to what two individuals can handle. The kits are made of individual pieces and are not "panelized." This is because it is difficult for owner-builders to handle large pre-assembled panels.

Design flexibility & customizable plans:

While we offer a wide selection of "popular kits," we also offer a kit design service to modify one of our kits or create a custom kit. We offer a variety of custom-designed plans to fit any lifestyle and budget. We can often create a kit design based on a drawing or sketch you send to us. We will work with you to create a design that meets your specific needs and preferences, making your home, barn or garage completely unique to you and your family.

Personalized Service:

We provide personalized service throughout the entire process of building your home. You will be able to reach us via telephone and email so that we can assist you in every step of the way and work with you to ensure your project stays on schedule and within budget.
